The Success of a Miniworkshop: Application of Synchrotron Techniques in High-pressure Materials Research

Soochow University-Western University Centre of Synchrotron Radiation Research (SWC) hosted the a Mini-workshop named “Application of Synchrotron Techniques in High-Pressure Materials Research ”on May 18, 2015, in Conference B, Building 909, Dushu Lake Campus, Soochow University. More than 30 students and researchers from Soochow University were presented.

Prof. Yang Song of Western University and Dr. Wenge Yang from Center for High Pressure Science and Technology Advanced Research (HPSTAR) and High Pressure Synergetic Consortium (HPSynC) of Geophysical Laboratory, Carnegie Institution of Washington, were invited as the lecturer. Prof. Xuhui Sun, the Vice-Director of Institute of Functional Nano & Soft Materials and the Associate Dean of SWC, extended a warm welcome to both of them.

During the workshop, 4 academic reports were delivered, referring to the basic theory and experimental techniques in high pressure science and synchrotron radiation, also including some practical examples in which these techniques are used in a perfect way.

At the end of this workshop, Prof. Song also made an introduction on the 2+2 Joint PhD Program between Western University and Soochow University, letting students get to know more details on the requirements, application procedure, financial support and so on.

The success of this mini-workshop provides students with a good opportunity to learn more about the application of synchrotron techniques in high-pressure materials research, which extended their horizons and offer a new alternative tool for their future research.
