Date:2015-11-09      Views:

The 1st Workshop on Synchrotron Radiation Research and Energy Science between FUNSOM and ALS took place on October 28-30, 2015 on the Dushu Lake Campus of Soochow University.

Co-organized by the Institute of Functional Nano & Soft Materials (FUNSOM) and Soochow University-Western University Center for Synchrotron Radiation Research, the workshop was attended by more than 50 delegates, including 7 beamline scientists from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL)/Advanced Light Sourse (ALS), and over 10 researchers or scientists from the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF), the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (NSRL) in Hefei and the Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility (BSRF).

Prof. Shuit-Tong Lee, Director of FUNSOM, provided welcome remarks at the beginning of the workshop, which was hosted by Prof. T.K. Sham, Director of the Centre.

The workshop was divided into two parts, the first consisted of academic reports with a total of 26 oral presentations mainly focusing on the latest developments in synchrotron radiation and the status of beamline stations in ALS, SSRF, NSRL and RSRF. The more significant second part consisted of group discussion and gave everyone the chance to exchange ideas, get to know each other and open channels of communication to promote bilateral cooperation and the extension of collaborations in the near future.

The success of this workshop greatly strengthens the connection between members in FUNSOM and ALS, and improves the Center’s influence in the area of synchrotron radiation research.
