Liang Zhang, full professor of FUNSOM & CNST, has won the JPhysD Emerging Leaders Award from Institute of Physics (IOP, UK) in recognition of his development in in-situ synchrotron X-ray spectroscopy and outstanding contributions in the field of applied energy materials. Congratulations to Prof. Zhang!

The JPhysD Emerging Leaders Award recognises the talents of exceptional young researchers, who are making a significant contribution to their respective field of research. The award is selected every two years, one winner and five runners-up will be selected each time. This year, the Editorial Board selected six papers from many outstanding nominations across a diverse range of fields within applied physics, and from these, Prof. Liang Zhang was selected as the winner and 5 nominations from US, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and India were listed as runners-up.

Prof. Liang Zhang joined the Institute of Functional Nano & Soft Materials (FUNSOM), and Soochow Univ.-Western Univ. Centre for Synchrotron Radiation Research (SWC) in 2019. He graduated from the University of Science and Technology of China with a Ph.D. in 2013 and subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His main research direction is the development of advanced in-situ synchrotron radiation technology and its application in energy materials. So far, he has published 50 papers in journals such as Science, Nature Catalysis, Nano Lett., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Nano Energy, Phys. Rev. B, Appl. Phys. Lett., etc., among which 21 papers are named as first/corresponding author, the paper has been cited more than 2000 times, and 3 papers have been rated as high-cited papers. He has won awards such as the German Humboldt Scholarship, the President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, etc.
